Dr. Danise J. Miller
Clinical Director-Thrive Vision Therapy
I’d like to introduce myself! I’m Dr. Danise Miller, Doctor of Optometry. I’ve been an optometrist since 2002, although I’ve been in the biz’ since I was in college, when I worked as an optician. I graduated, with honors, from St. Cloud State University, with a BA degree in Biomedical Science in 1998, and from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University, with a doctorate in 2002. I was initially very anxious about having to move away to attend graduate school. However, moving away made me realize that I truly love where I grew up, and that I wanted to return to Central MN to practice optometry.
I pride myself in my approach to vision and how vision affects the entire person. Whether I am working with a child with difficulties in school, with an athlete who has suffered a concussion or with an adult who has suffered a stroke, I am thinking about my role to provide for the whole person and his/her family. I listen to my patients and I strive to provide the best recommendations for clear, comfortable, effortless vision. This describes my emphasis as a Behavioral Optometrist.
Behavioral optometry addresses vision and visual skills beyond seeing 20/20 detail. If visual skills have developed to be inefficient, or if they have been altered with acquired brain injury, visual skills can be trained to be more efficient through optometric vision therapy. I have taken extensive post-doctorate training from internationally-known experts in the area of vision therapy. I opened Thrive Vision Therapy in June of 2015. There, I am able to fulfill my dream of providing vision therapy.
I am a proud member of the Minnesota affiliate of the American Optometric Association, the College of Optometry in Vision Development, the Optometric Extension Program, and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association. I am also a member of Lions Club International, the Brainerd Elks Lodge #615, and the Little Falls Kiwanis club.
I am married and I live in rural Brainerd. Because I am a ‘country kid’, I love almost any outdoor activity. I especially enjoy playing volleyball, bicycling, boating, golfing, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.
I grew up in Little Falls, Minnesota and I graduated from Little Falls Community High School. After high school, I attended St. Cloud Technical College. There, I graduated with a Developmental Needs Assistant diploma. I moved to Bloomington, Minnesota to pursue my career in Early Childhood Development. I was a preschool teacher and the Assistant Director of TBCC in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
While working with Dr. Danise Miller at Vision Cents Optical in Little Falls, I was introduced to vision therapy. I am enthusiastic about the possibilities vision therapy can provide for children and for adults. I started training the Dr. Miller to become a vision therapist in 2013. During that time, my youngest child was diagnosed with Convergence Insufficiency, an eye coordination problem. Becoming my son’s home therapy partner gave me insight and hands-on experience that confirmed my desire to help others with visual insufficiencies. I have worked at Thrive Vision Therapy, as a vision therapist, since its inception in June 2015. I am excited to provide this important service to the Little Falls Community. It is my goal to raise awareness of the symptoms, of the diagnosis and of the huge benefits that vision therapy can provide.
I have always considered Little Falls my home. I enjoy the many things the community has to offer; I participate in them as often as possible. My children play baseball and basketball. We do not miss any of their games. There is nothing I enjoy more than spending time with my family and my close friends.
Office Manager & Optician
I grew up in LF and graduated from LFCH. I attended St. Cloud State University for 2 years after which, I started working for Boys and Girls Clubs of Central MN. I worked toward a management position and had the privilege of managing the Sauk Rapids KIDSTOP for several years. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of serving the children and the families of the Sauk Rapids community. In 2008, I was offered a position to become a daycare manager, as well as a Parent Counselor, for Journey Home in Sauk Rapids. The unique experience of working at Journey Home grew my compassion for children and their families and added dimension to my management skills.
My father, Dr Robert McDunn was the practicing optometrist and owner of VCO for nearly 20 years. I had the honor of working for him, doing administrative duties, during this time. When he passed away, I decided to take a more visible role in my father’s business. The entire McDunn family wanted to continue the quality care and trust that he strived to achieve in his practice. I proudly have been an optician and the medical billing specialist for Vision Cents Optical since 2011.
I moved back to LF in 2014 with my husband, Chris, and my son, Kaden. In addition to Kaden, I also have a step son, Jordan, who is active in the Air Force and a step daughter, Maia, who is attending The College of St Benedicts. Moving back to LF has allowed me to be closer to my family and to enjoy the community where I grew up and was raised.
I grew up in Rochester, which is located in southeast Minnesota. After graduating from Century High School, I attended the University of St. Thomas, earning a bachelor’s of arts degree in Political Science with a minor in English. My husband and I moved to Little Falls in 2014 which lead me to starting a position in the eye care industry in 2016. I have loved getting to know the people and community of Little Falls. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with a great team and help patients with their vision needs. In my down time, I enjoy reading, cooking, hanging out with friends, and boating the Mississippi River with my husband.
Thank you for choosing Thrive With Vision for your vision needs. I am a Technician and an Optician here at Thrive With Vision and will be assisting you throughout your visit with us.
I grew up in Waite Park, MN and graduated from St. Cloud Apollo High School. I then moved to Cold Spring, MN where I started my family of 3 girls. Our family moved to Little Falls in 2010 and have called Little Falls home ever since. I have been in the medical field for over 28 years, involved in everything from pre-hospital care, to nursing, and end of life care. I’ve also volunteered with the Waite Park Rescue Squad, Waite Park Explorer Post, Waite Park Police Department, and St. Stephen Fire Explorer Post. In between my medical career, I have also worked for several telecommunications companies and did daycare from my home while my children were young.
I enjoy spending time with my 3 children and attending all their activities. I enjoy watching movies, camping, baking, shopping, reading, and playing with our dog. My girls and I all love animals and volunteer at the Morrison County Humane Society.
I have always had a caring heart and taking care of others has been my calling throughout my work background, family, and interests in volunteering.
I grew up near Rice, MN and graduated from Holdingford High School. After graduation, I attended St. Cloud State University in pursuit of a degree in Psychology. While attending college, I was working part-time at an eye clinic. As I became more involved and learned more about Optometry, I discovered that eye care is my true passion. I worked there for several years, and eventually ended up managing the clinic.
I moved to Little Falls in 2012 and have enjoyed getting to know the people and the community. Wanting to work closer to home, I decided to take on a position in the eye care industry in Little Falls. Now with over 10 years of experience, I joined the Thrive With Vision Team in June of 2018.
I reside in Little Falls with my husband, Bryan, and two children. Bryan and I like to attend all of the activities that our children are involved in. As a family, we enjoy going camping, fishing, and biking.
