Optician/Patient Care Representative – Neuro-Optometry Office

Summary:
As an Optician, you will work with patients to find the most suitable eyewear for their needs. You will recommend specific eyewear, take measurements, fit, order, and adjust glasses, and teach patients to properly wear and care for their glasses and contact lenses.
As a Patient Care Representative, you will work with patients to get them checked in for their appointment; this includes all aspects to prepare the patient so the doctor can start the exam. You will also answer phones and make reminder calls for upcoming appointments.
Responsibilities:
- Taking patient information and measurements to assure optimal glasses performance.
- Recommend frames, lenses and lens coatings that suit the patient’s style, face and specifications/needs.
- Adjusting glasses for patients and repair broken frames.
- Prepare work orders for the lab to use to manufacture the lenses.
- Use specialized equipment such as calipers, lensometers, pupilometers and lens gauges.
- Work with patients who have specialty lenses, as prescribed by the neuro-optometrist.
- Check glasses in when they come back from the lab to verify finished lenses are ground to the proper specifications.
- Meet with frame reps and maintain the inventory of frames and contact lenses to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction.
- Compute amount of sale and collect payment for glasses/services.
- Perform administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records and insurance.
- Check patient in for their appointments, verify their demographic and insurance information, obtain signatures, etc.
- Ready patients to be seen by the doctor, which may include pre-testing.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in optometry is preferred.
- Previous experience as an optician is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in a clinical environment is helpful.
- Familiarity in working with brain injury patients a plus.
